SAW PALMETTO BERRIES 25% Standardized Extract 125mg: Is mainly used for the treatment of conditions associated with BPH (nonmalignant enlargement of the prostate gland). Recent clinical research appears to have proven that Saw Palmetto extract is beneficial in BPH. Its mechanism of action in the treatment of BPH is reported to be that Saw Palmetto inhibits the conversion of testosterone to DHT (dihydrotesterone), the agent thought to be responsible for the enlargement of the prostrate. In addition, Saw Palmetto extract inhibits the binding of DHT to cell receptors in the prostate thus blocking its action. It has also been shown to have an inhibitory effect both on androgen and estrogen nuclear receptors. This is accomplished without interfering with testosterone, follicle-stimulating hormone, or luteinizing hormone levels. Most importantly, Saw Palmetto does not affect PSA levels, thus it does not mask the ability of PSA tests to detect cancer. Inhibits 5-alpha-reductase and 3-alpha-reductase production.

PYGEUM AFRICANUM 2.5% Standardized Extract 60mg: An anti-inflammatory that acts synergistically with the other ingredients.

LYCOPENE 3% Standardized Extract 15mg: Lycopene is the carotenoid that provides the red color in tomatoes, guavas and pink grapefruit. Among the carotenoids, it is the most efficient quencher of singlet oxygen free radicals. Lycopene is by far the most abundant carotenoid present in the prostate gland and appears to provide important protection against free radical attack in the prostate. Higher levels of these nutrients in the diet and in the body have been linked to promoting and sustaining prostate health, particularly as men mature.

PHYTOSTEROLS, PENTACYLIC TRITERPENES and FERULIC ESTERS: Help provide anti-edema and decongesting action, reduce prolactin levels and block accumulation of cholesterol in the prostate.
